Why Edward Scissorhands is one of my focus films

I chose Edward Scissorhands as one of my focus films because even though it has Edward the main characters name in the title it is just as much about the family and people that surround him, mostly housewives. Just after Edward (Johnny Depp) is brought home by Peg (Dianne Wiest) there is a scene where all the housewives are chatting about him on the corner of a road and as soon as the cars start coming down the road (presumably their husbands) the women scatter then as soon as the cars leave off again in the morning the women walk out and start talking and scheming. But they all have to be home for their husbands, Peg is the only one who appears to have a job even if she doesn't have much success until she meets Edward.

She is a strong female character proven by the fact that she is determined to do well in her job and does go right into the house and doesn't get scared until she meets Edward. However determined she is she needs Edward to get the attention from the head Avon lady. Edward is a weaker character, Burton makes this obvious by the make up which makes him look surprised by everything and Depp uses a quiet slightly high pitched voice which almost questions what he says showing that his character was 'trapped by his incomplete body'1.
