Alice in Wonderland (2010)

Alice is the strong lead female character in Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland, although it is not an original story Burton twists the characters to make them even more quirky than they were already. This is Burtons first film with a title female character. To compare this with Edward Scissorhands Burton has taken more of an interest in developing her as a character than he did with Jen. You could compare the scenes where Jen is angry with Jim and doesn't put up much of a fight although this is partially down to the script the character doesn't say the lines with enough emphasis or wit to make you think she is a strong character. comparing this to Alice's argument about whether shes the right alice through out the film, the character is written quite sweet and kind Burton makes her character strong and kind.

Roles of women in Tim Burton films

Edward Scissorhands (1990)

The mother is a strong figure however she is thought of as a third character rather than second, the second most would say is the love interest who is not a strong woman

Planet of the Apes

Sweeney Todd

The role of Mrs Lovett is although not a title role she is undoubtedly a main character.

Alice in wonderland

The role of Alice is a title role and the main character this is a development from his early work only having male main characters and title roles with women being the side role, although the title role of Sweeney todd is a male role mrs Lovett plays just as an important part.
